Creating a site for a small business: what to choose?

Today, the creation of the site as a tool for improving the efficiency of doing business is chosen by both representatives of large businesses and representatives of small companies. And if usually for large companies when creating a site is chosen type of “corporate” or “Internet portal”, then for small companies the choice is often limited to the notorious site – “business card”. But is this correct?

Business cards such as these have earned their popularity several years ago as being the optimum sites for small businesses or private entrepreneurs, since such sites are very affordable and can offer their visitors a minimum of information about their services and contact information. However, with increasing demand for various products and services on the Internet, the functionality of a standard business card is no longer sufficient.

A business card site is just a few (no more than 10) static html pages that contain basic information about the company that this site represents: the name of the company, its contact information, the list of services or goods, the price list. In some cases, feedback may also be added to the elements of a regular business card site. A few years earlier, such a simple “complete set” was considered sufficient for the site of a small company, but now everything is different.

The number of companies competing with each other in one area or another is increasing day by day, and with each passing day the competition between the websites of these companies on the Internet is increasing. As a result, each site owner tries to offer something new and interesting to visitors to turn them into their customers. In the conditions of such fierce competition simple “business cards” with minimal functionality are in a consciously more losing position.

Therefore, it is obvious that at the present time a site such as a “business card” can no longer adequately represent a company online. But then what for small business to choose instead? In this case, what type of site will work best to attract potential customers or buyers to the company?

Given the increasing demands of modern Internet users on the content and functionality of sites on the global network, a small company site that would meet at least a minimum of these requirements should include a sufficiently detailed information about the company and a detailed list of services or product catalog with mandatory availability of photos and descriptions for each position, a mandatory (not optional, as before) feedback form.

In order to increase competitiveness, a modern small business site should also have 10 or more pages of unique thematic content: news of the company itself or news of the area in which the company operates, useful tips for visitors, information about conditions of cooperation, etc. In doing so, the content of the site must be updated regularly to show both visitors and search engines that the site is maintained and actively developed. This modern small business site requires a content management system (CMS).

Thus, the site of a small company that meets the above requirements should be of a type not lower than “basic”. The site type “base” is created on the basis of CMS and includes all the functionalities necessary for the modern representation of a small company. The great advantage of this type of site is that it can be expanded if necessary by adding new features to engage with visitors. This scalable site is very flexible to adapt to the demands of Internet users, which changes over time, and saves money on creating new sites for the company.
