Creating a corporate site: an intranet portal
Creating a corporate site may require companies for a variety of purposes, including, for example, managing an internal information resource of the company, which would allow them to collectively work on different tasks. It is not always the case that a standard website is suitable for this purpose, and then a dedicated intranet portal for the company will be required. What is an intranet portal and how is it different from regular corporate portals?
The Internet is a private computer network of the company, built on the same technologies and principles as the Internet, but accessible only to a limited number of people, which usually includes executives and employees of the company. The Intranet is a kind of “miniature internet”, it allows the company employees to apply the corporate knowledge most effectively and to respond promptly to the events that occur due to the unified work environment, as well as the only ways of processing and storing information.
Company intranet portal is a corporate portal accessible to company employees within the intranet network. At the same time, employees get access to the company’s intranet portal through the standard web interface, and thus the work with the portal for them is practically no different from the work with the usual web portals. Intranet portal filling is usually done by specially trained employees using appropriate client programs.
Corporate intranet portals may be required by companies as an alternative to CRM and ERP systems used to automate business processes. Unlike such “box” solutions, intranet portals do not need to be implemented for a long time in the company, they have high cross-platform compatibility and do not require installation and further regular updating of client software on local PCs of users. By the way, intranet portals also have a number of advantages over regular internet portals, the most important of which is the security of data stored on the intranet from external access. This increases the confidentiality of the company data and reduces the risk of leakage of important insider information to competitors.
Speaking about the specific tasks of the company, which helps the intranet portal, they include accelerating information exchange within the company, improving employee interaction, accelerating the training of new employees, prompt updating of information, automatic notification of employees about important events. Of course, to solve all these tasks, as well as many others, the intranet portal should be created at a high professional level, taking into account all the individual characteristics of a particular company.
