Creating Online Stores: Linking Pages

Creating online stores requires attention to even the smallest details, and even more so it is impossible to avoid the issue of internal re-linking of sites of this type. Competent retelling of online store pages and search engines will better index online stores and help potential buyers make a positive decision. How exactly is it necessary to organize a re-link in an online store?

Linking is referred to in web design as the placement on the inside pages of hyperlinked sites that lead to other internal pages of these sites. There are several factors behind the need to redraw pages in online stores. Firstly, the presence of links between pages is necessary for a more even distribution of the so-called reference weight, and, secondly, links between pages help visitors to find the necessary information on certain issues faster.

Today, there are quite a few ways and schemes of re-linking site pages, and they are usually applied to the individual features of the site being created. Online retailers may use, for example, the following remedies for internal re-linking.

Popular / New Products Block

A common way to improve your online store’s internal linking is to add a “Popular / New Products” block to your pages, which should provide a summary of what is most popular among online shoppers / newest products and links to those products.

Similar Products Unit

Placing such an information block on the pages of an online store is another way to improve internal linking. This block is located on the pages of “merchandise cards” of the online store, and it lists links to products that, by varying properties, are similar to the currently open product. For example, on a branded product page, you can link to similar products from other brands.

Related Products Block

This information block also helps to improve the redraw of pages in the online store. It is located on the “product card” page and is formed from links to those products that buyers usually buy in addition to the current product. For example, items such as digital cameras can include links to camera cases, memory cards, interchangeable lenses, photo booths, and more in the Related Products section.

The link blocks described above are not only for enhancing internal linking, but also for enhancing the usability of an online store, so placing them on pages can be very useful. In this case, the generated data blocks of links can be either manually or automatically – based on certain parameters, set programmatically.

Additionally it can be noted that “work” for online stores and such well-known internal linking tools, such as “bread crumbs” (pathway) and contextual links. Of course, these tools should be used individually, carefully considering how many and what links should be on each page, because it is important to remember that too many outbound links on the same page can do more harm than good.

Internal re-linking of an online store should be provided at the stage of its creation, however, if necessary, and for a ready-made e-store, web page re-linking can be improved by ordering a website optimization service in a professional web design studio for this purpose.
