Site development task: how to build it?

Website development is always done on the basis of a technical task – a document that specifies in the most detailed and precise requirements for the future site. And compliance of the finished site with a pre-approved technical specification for development is usually the reason for accepting the site by the customer. Writing a site development assignment can help make the collaboration between the customer and contractor most effective.

The technical task of creating a site is in an arbitrary form, but most often it is most convenient to make it structured, that is, clearly divided into sections, subdivisions, categories, points, and so on. However, there is no consensus on how the technical task for the site development should be drafted, and, as a rule, in each individual case the technical task (TOR) is quite different. But most of the site development websites have some common features. These features should be considered in more detail.

For example, in the terms of reference for the development of the site is often indicated by a number of general information about the future site. In particular, it describes the goals and objectives of the site, the features of its target audience, the characteristics of the interaction of visitors with the site, expected from the actions of users, etc. Also, the terms of the terms and definitions used in this document may be included in the general part of the TOR to exclude possible variations.

The main part of the technical task for the development of the site, as a rule, is devoted to describing the specific characteristics of the required site. This should describe only those characteristics that can be objectively evaluated in some way: to calculate, measure, etc. But to specify in the description of the characteristics of the site during the drafting of the subjective criteria, such as, for example, “good design” , “Convenient menu”, it is impossible, because different people may have completely different views on what constitutes a “beautiful” site design and what a “comfortable” menu should be.

As part of the terms of reference for the creation of the site, it is necessary to provide a description of the required functionality of the site, indicating what modules or information blocks are required on the pages of the site. You should also give a description of the structure of the site, indicate whether to use the corporate identity of the company, if any. If there are requirements for development of the administrative part of the site, these requirements should also be noted. Technical specifications for the development of the site are also stated in the technical conditions for the future site operation.

As you know, the same site in different browsers, on different monitors and with different operating system settings on users’ computers may display with some differences. To avoid differences between the customer and the contractor in the terms of reference for creating a website, for example, you should include a description of what should be the main resolution range of the monitors to view the site, as well as which browsers the site should display correctly. And in the world of increasing popularity of mobile devices, it is important to note in the technical and technical conditions of the site in mobile browsers and operating systems.

The site development task is not just a description of all the requirements for the site, but also a means of verifying the work performed: the customer can compare the finished result with the TK and determine whether the site actually meets the objectives and goals described initially. Therefore, it is obvious that the more elaborated the TK, the less it can result from differences between the customer and the contractor. And if the customer does not have the opportunity to scrupulously approach the technical task, then in the technical task it may be stated that some elements of the site must be designed at the discretion of the contractor, which will make the cooperation between the customer and the contractor more flexible.
