Custom Website Creation: Fast Or Right?
Custom website creation is now done by dedicated web design studios, web development departments at large IT companies, freelancers working individually. In each case, site customers receive both advantages and disadvantages in cost and speed of development.
Creating websites quickly and at the lowest cost (often a requirement for customers) can be done by a freelancer, for example. However, if the creation of sites is carried out too quickly, it often violates the rules and regulations of the web development process. What will be the consequences of such violations?
Difficulties with modifying or adding site content. After receiving a site created “quickly and cheaply” by the customer, it may suddenly be that changing the company phone number or, for example, adding a new image to the site will not be possible without the intervention of the developer. Of course, you will have to pay extra for the developer’s services in this case.
Difficulties setting up site functionality. Sites that are designed for “short-term” often have difficulty configuring functionality: there is no way to change the names of menu items, there is no way to add descriptions and keywords to the pages of the site. To get the result you need, you have to re-engage the web developers involved in creating the site. This entails new costs.
Difficulties with the allocation of access rights to the site. In order to save time and money on site creation, a performer can create only 2 groups of site users: “guests” and “administrators”. In practice, it may be that the site needs a much more “subtle” distribution of access rights: someone has to add news, someone – to edit prices in the product catalog, someone – to manage the technical support of the site. The problems that arise will have to be solved again, attracting developers for an additional fee.
Difficulties with updating content management systems. Due to the need to create custom websites quickly and cheaply, content management systems that integrate the sites can be modified and supplemented, which can disrupt the normal operation of these systems. As a result, any attempt to upgrade systems, for example to improve their security, can lead to complete failure of these systems and loss of performance sites.
Thus, ignoring the rules and rules of web development in order to save time and money to create a site brings to the customer losses and additional “headache”. Therefore, creating custom websites is a task that can only be accomplished by qualified professionals with extensive web development experience.
